   Born in Paris, Albert Simonin had a number of jobs, including that of taxi driver, and used his knowledge of Parisian nightlife to create the setting for his police and mystery novels. in a literary style, using the local argot, the stories of the common people who inhabit his world are told with all their rivalries and travails in Touchez pas au grisbi! (1953) Le cave se rebiffe (1954), and Le Hotu, chronique de la vie d'un demi-sel (three volumes, 1968-71). Simonin is also the author of Du mouron pour les petits oiseaux (1963) and his reminiscences, Confessions d'un enfant de la Chapelle (1977).
